Subject : Tranmission troubles
Hello
I have a B2500 diesel 4x4 pickup
with a problem ,
lately I have felt that 4 wheel drive has not been right. So today I
jacked the truck up on blocks and locked the Aisin hubs, engaged low
range 4 wheel drive, started it up and had a good nose about
underneath...
Well, the propshaft to the front diff is turning.
The drive shafts to the front wheels don't turn unless I unlock the
front hubs, but even when the shafts turn the wheels stay put. So hubs
I think. The shafts seem to be merely drifting, and not driven. Next,
I switch off and rotate the driver's side wheel – the drive shaft
turns (?) It seems that the driver's side wheel IS locking onto the
shaft.
Then I do the same with the other wheel but the shaft
doesn't turn (???) Now I am puzzled. Start it up again and with handy
piece of timber I find that I can stop the drive shaft turning with
very very little effort, so they must be just drifting round with no
drive as such. What can I deduce from this ? I think the passenger
side hub is broken PLUS there is a problem in the front diff or the
drive shafts.

the mazda kicks out of gear in 5th only, any ideas?

that gear box fit, it also has a rear cover would this also fit?

Hi Anyone know where i can get a cheap crankshaft position sensor for
a ford ranger 2004 xlt thunder. Fords want £360 to supply only. part
number is 1460775 or would one from a mazda bongo fit

Subject : Crank Sensor
I have a 2004 ranger and it is flashing up code p0335 Failed
crankshaft postion sensor and p1649 Failed fuel pump rom also
revcounter does not work
The problem is i cannot find crank sensor
anywhere
The parts list from ford shows it on the drivers side of
engine but can find nothing,at £360 i dont want to realy,at that
price it is daft,

    but a Crank
    sensor on the wl/wlt engine?

    info As ive just changed glow plugs NGK said unavailable fraud wanted
    £130 per plug
    and FAP of glougester supplied Blue Print for aa

        yup same here, removed this sensor way back, i burn more diesel, and
        the timing runs slightly more advanced, but went through emissions
        test fine, best price i had from fords was 331 plus vat and delivery.
        spent weeks trying to find elsewhere, and breakers yards was a
        complete waste of phonecalls..best we can get is perhaps a better
        discount if we buy together perhaps.
        oem part was made by
        mitsibushi, part number J5T26371, independant suppliers cannot source
        this part new, ford part number is 1460775 (XM34-6C315-AB) if anyone
        else has a solution please let us know. as ford want crazy money for
        this very very cheap to make part. kev

Subject : Fuel temp sensor
Hi all, I have a ford ranger 2002 and after loads of searching for
someone who has the right diagnostic plug, I have finally been told
that my fault causing the glow plug (management) light to flash is the
fuel temperature sensor. Anyone know where it is located? Thanks.

Subject : Engine Nock
Hi, I have an 52 plate b2500 diesel.There is a heavy ticking noise
which I thought may be a tappet loose or a worn cam. I have checked
both and they seem to be ok. Is there any other obvious thing I am
missing. TIA.

    just spotted your message, hope its no the case but i have an 04 B2500
    and the tips fell off two glow plugs in to the pots causing a loud
    intermittent tapping noise. Might be worth checking your glow plugs.
    It killed my engine after 6 months.

      Hi, thanks for the response. I pulled the glow plugs and they are
      fine. I took the rocker cover off(again) and rechecked the tappet
      clearances and that there was plent of oil on each lobe. No problems
      found and still have this heavy ticking from it sound like one valve.

    Change the oil part synthetic add wynns lifter
    cleaner and give it a good run
    Change the oil @ 5000 miles EVERY
    5k miles
    Dirt jams them up.

    wheel hub front bearing.THIS IS NOT the tapered type it is a single
    sealed bearing and Very expensive Ford part number 4432022 One

      I don't think this engine has hydraulic lifters as the tappets are
      manually adjusted...but I may be wrong.

      The tappets are Hydrolic Wynns cleaner and a 5ooo mile oil
      change may sort it. Mine still does it if it doesnt get enough hard
      work
      FRONT Bearing I too had the bearing problem Single Front
      bearing NOT Tapered There is a listing on eBay for the correct one
      but its still expensive
      Did you find an alternative as my N/S
      failed after 40k so dont know whats down the road for the O/S
      I

Subject : TOWBAR B2500 IMPORT
I have just discovered that my 2001 B2500 is an import with twin rear
bumpers which are mounted on a strong cross member under the
tailgate. There is a break off patch on the plastic cover with a
mounting hole for a towbar underneath. Does anyone out there know
where I can get the correct towbar or even a picture as I could make
one if I knew what it looked like. The Mazda dealers cant help.

Subject : Rear light intermittent fault
I have a b2500 52 plate. Over the past 6 mths i have a fault with no
set pattern. Sometimes the indicator at the back switches sides,
sometimes when braking it happens, sometimes the stereo light flashes
on braking, sometimes indicator lights glowing on all the time or
coming on instead of break lights, always at the rear, front is fine.
And then fault disappears. Any ideas

    broken earth connection where the rear cables clear the rear chassis
    cross member. Check for a broken connector - in my case it was obvious
    with the wire hanging down.

Subject : Crazy Temp Guage/Overflowing expansion bottle
I have a 2003 Ranger, recently my temp guage has been acting crazy,
then all of a sudden after a few seconds is normal again, also my
coolant expansion bottle is holding a lot more coolant than what it
should be and sometimes overflows, when checking the radiator level it
sometimes is quite low, surely the radiator should be drawing the
coolant back in from the expansion bottle??

I have a 2003 ranger 2.5 that misfires at idle and when you drive at
low revs, the misfire stops when you drive at higher revs.
I have
had the injectors serviced and the filters changed but it has made no
difference

B2500 Yr 2000 W reg 75k, had set glow plugs @ 60k & new battery last
winter, cold starting problems now when does go large cloud black
smoke, surly glow plug last more than 15k?

    12v battery, if it glows red on the end its ok if not change it

I have a 2002 ranger the will only start if the ignition is switched
on/off 3 times the 4th time let the heater plug light go out count to
15 and it will start after cranking over for a while this has to be
done if the eginine is hot or cold
fitted new heater plugs and
relay still the same anyone got any idears?

I am changing the clutch in my 2000 mazda B2500 and not seeing how to
remove the throwout bearing, there is a ring when I push it down but
no break so to separate to take off the bearing from the shaft. Any
info can help ?

Subject : Mazda B2599 2.5TD Losing Coolant
04 Plate, Ford Ranger 119k. Losing around a pint+ of water a day. No
obvious leaks anywhere, followed coolant path. Tried coolant dye under
UV lamp nothing. New radiator cap. Lumpy start at any time even when
warm. Checked for moisture in oil and exhaust, all OK. Runs good.
Totally confused??

      Charge air cooler??? any white smoke?, charge air cooler split would
      cause it to use coolant but burn it straightaway, also could be the
      egr cooler

I have a ford ranger sometimes engine revs on it s own usually after
driving it for about 5 to 10 minutes and occasionally at other times
also glow plug light comes on when engine is cold after about 5 to 10
minutes but only flashes a few times then seems to go out when engine
has warmed up can anyone enlighten me to why these two problems are

Starting problem like a misfire on engine and a lot of smoke cannot
take my foot of the pedal otherwise it will die on me.But when warm up
it's OK.

    I had a similart prob with my Ranger. It was 2 failed glow plugs.
    Note that the 2005 engine needs the very expensive £80 each ceramic
    plugs. Others will fit but do not function so you have the same
    problkem but you thought you had solved it!

    First of all replace all glow plugs,dont need expensive ones,they are
    only $25 each here.If that does not improve it much then take out
    injectors and have them serviced.I had exact same symptoms with one of
    these last week and it fixed it like new.

Subject : Mazda B2500 hot start problem
I have a problem starting hot. The engine is great when cold but after
running for only 10 miles or so in warm weather the engine will refuse
to start after stopping. There is also a problem at low revs when hot
when pulling away with no response from the throttle at all. Any
ideas? Thanks in advance

      Hi Hans, It was the fuel pump in the end. I got a useed one on Ebay
      for £250 & fitted it and all the problems went.

        have this problem, bit hard to start after a journey for last 6 months
        when hot, but will never fail just turn over a good few time before

    Thanks for the fast reply,i was afraid it was the most expensive
    option,garage quoted me €1700 for a fuel pump,at least now i know

    Hi Nat,
    We spoke a while ago,by fuelpump you mean the
    dieselinjection pump i presume.
    My garage still does not beleive
    its the injectionpump but,i am sure its the pump after what you told
    me.
    Anyway i can by a pump at thornton breakers for 250, but will
    it fit? what is the pump number or do they all fit? thank hans

    spent 600 euro trying to fix hot start problem with garage, after all
    that rang diesel pump mechanic told me after journey pour bottle of
    cold water on pump and if it starts that the problem, that was it,
    cost me 600 this morn to get it done,but running like a dream.

I own a 2002 ford ranger doublecab 2.4 td.Great vehicle although a bit
juicey.Anybody tell me where I can get a service manual [not yankee as
they dont seem to do diesel].Also are there any grease points that

    Hi there, did you ever get a workshop manual for the Mazda/Ranger. If
    so could you please give me the link.
    I have had to replace my
    gearbox in my 2004 Ranger (66k miles only). I have installed a box
    from a 2008 model (Not thinking it would be different). Ford have
    changed the gearbox radically, so its been a struggle. All is in ok
    now but it won't disengage the front diff after being in 4WD. I need a
    wiring diagram to trace the wires from the Gearbox. There is an extra
    wire from the 2008 box thats not present on the 2004 box. Hope you can
    assist.

        Hi Graham, I have completed the Gearbox change on my 2004 Ranger. The
        main probs were the prop shafts. With the 2008 Gearbox being approx 3"
        longer and the connections being different we had to get 2008 Prop
        shafts then cut and weld using a combination of old and new. The new
        gearbox is going well, no knocking ect. The new props are also
        stronger

        The hope is that this new box will be much better
        than the old. Obviously Ford/Mazda have had probs with the older box,
        the newer one looks much stronger. Upsides are the car drives and
        pulls better. However the ratios are slightly different. The downside
        (Not sorted yet) is the speedo reads approx 15MPH too fast, also every
        100 miles the dig clock reads approx 115. These are not show stoppers
        for me. This is caused by the sender module located on the gear box
        being different, and at the moment we cant see a way round
        this.

        If your box has broke, and your ok with welding or can
        get the main prop shaft machined then its actually and easy
        conversion.

        Parts needed were: (all from ebay)
        Gearbox
        £450
        Full set of late mod prop shafts £150
        Cross member and
        rubber mount £25.00
        New oil £75

        The box is very heavy we
        suspended ours through the gear lever aperture untill we could fix the
        bell housing.

Subject : Flashing glow plug
Hi, I've got a 2005 ford ranger/mazda b series with 24,000 miles which
has just started throwing up the flashing glow plug symbol after
travelling a couple of miles.Doesn't seem to affect the vehicle but
can't find out what this could mean. Any ideas?

    A had the same thing. Mazda expert said, the glowplug was not hot
    enough when starting the engine. Suggested to wait while the indicator
    lamp is on and to start the engine right after the indicator light
    goes out. He was right, a had waited several minutes before starting
    the engine. After some kilometers the indivator started flashing.
    Irritating, but harmless, he said.

    flashing glow plug light is engine management warning. it means that
    the system has picked up a fault the only way to find out what is to
    read fault codes. mine was caused by switch on throttle peddle but
    yours could be any of many sensors its no good second guessing as five
    months and many trips back to dealer and other auto electricans

      I had the same problem its takes 10 minutes to fix tool required 12mm
      spanner remove fuel filter lift without disconecting fuel line or
      electrics open white plastic valve at bottom about 4 turns do not
      remove pump primer button (black button on top) this removes water
      from trap into a cup keep priming until the cup is half full tighten
      valve reassemble job done. you can let your dealer do the job but you
      will have to take your bank manager with you lol

Subject : Noisy engine on startup
Hi, Now the weather is a lot colder, my Mazda B2500 is making a sharp,
"pinking"/rattling noise when I start her up from cold. The noise
stops after a few minutes, and the pickup runs absolutely fine. Could
one of my glow plugs have gone?
